This database is continually updated by our team (we’ve already pre-measured entire cities like New York, Chicago, Milwaukee, etc. for their low bridges) and by the collective input of users. When running Sentinel, an OTR driver gets an audible alarm well before any known low-clearance hazard on their route. This distance can be adjusted to reflect road conditions and the environment. 

Crucially, Sentinel’s integration means these warnings can be fed right into the truck’s telematics screen or ELD tablet. So a long-haul driver who lives by their in-cab system will see a “LOW BRIDGE” alert pop up without needing a separate device. You can integrate Sentinel alerts into your fleet’s telematics or dispatch software via simple API or data feed (if desired). Many telematics partners can display our low-clearance warnings on their in-cab screens. The system was built to “play nice” with others – as noted, it can run on a smartphone or pipe into a dedicated fleet monitor. There’s no need for separate navigation devices; Sentinel can hum quietly under whatever GPS app or route guidance your drivers already use.

The only hardware to install is the sensor module (for when you want to measure new hazards). This weatherproof sensor and Bluetooth module can be mounted on a vehicle (often a pilot car or one of the trucks) with a simple 12V plug for power. It’s a non-permanent install, so you can transfer it between vehicles as needed. Many fleets equip a couple of units for their route surveyors or lead drivers. The hardware automatically syncs with the Tracking App on an Android device (currently Android-only for the tracking function). Note: Drivers who are only receiving alerts do not need any special hardware – they just run the User App on their phone or tablet, which uses the device’s GPS. This keeps rollout costs low and deployment as easy as installing any mobile app.

From a user standpoint, Sentinel is incredibly straightforward. There is nothing complex for the driver to do – they don’t have to input routes or constantly interact with the app. They simply launch the app (or it can auto-start with the vehicle ignition if integrated) and drive. The app’s own GPS ensures it always knows where the truck is, even if the driver deviates from planned routes. Alerts happen automatically when needed, and otherwise the driver can forget it’s there. This “zero touch” approach means no additional training modules; any driver familiar with basic smartphone or in-dash apps can use Sentinel. In fact, because the vehicle heights can be pre-programmed by the fleet, the driver doesn’t even need to know the exact height – the system already knows it and will warn appropriately.
